Research and Development

The core of my process starts with getting out there and being inspired by what is around me. Whether it is on a hike up a 14,000 foot peak or skiing the Rocky Mountains, being part of an experience within an outdoor sport will allow you to understand and focus on what is needed to excel at your greatest potential.

When solving for a problem, I like to focus on designing for function. I want to find ways I can add elements that will provide comfort, durability, and accessibility across many uses. It starts with the fabric, looking at what can allow for breathability and mobility, while holding up to different climates and environments. Through research and development, I mock up samples and test them in different elements that you might encounter during an outdoor adventure. These samples consist of different fabrics and materials that help me understand the consumer’s needs.

During the process it is important to be involved in a sustainable mission and work with manufacturing practices and partners that share the same values. When designing, I look for ways to include sustainable processes with an innovative eye. My goal is to research and develop new textiles through sustainable practices and find ways to include ethical sourcing.

With extensive research, sketches are drawn with the different elements allowing an understanding of placement and where function is most needed. Im a fan of utility, as an example, compartments and pockets are essential in many of my products. I want to ensure that what I design is practical and contemporary.

Color is introduced from natural elements, finding ways to either have the garment stand out or blend in to its surroundings.
